Constance Connie I. VanDeusen

Constance I Van Deusen, formerly of Potsdam, died, Monday Sept 17th at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, NY, at the age of 92. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 11am at the Garner Funeral Service with Rev. Lee Sweeney celebrant. Friends may call at the Garner Funeral Service on Saturday from 9:30 until the time of the service. Connie was born on April 10, 1920 in Malone, NY, the daughter of Emma LaClair and Heyward Irving. Connie attended Katherine Gibbs secretarial School in Providence R.I. and later joined the Navy in 1944 serving her country in WWII. After the war she attended Emerson College in Boston MA. She met Richard Van Deusen in the summer of 1949 and they were married June 10, 1950.

Spending her adult life in Potsdam, Connie, was an active golfer and member of the Potsdam Town and Country Club, Zonta, the Potsdam Community Chorus under the direction of Mary English, a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, bridge club member and enthusiast who taught her grandchildren numerous card games. Connie was a secretary at Alcoa in Massena before the war, was Helen Hosmers’ secretary at the Potsdam State Teachers College, secretary at the St. Lawrence County National Bank in Potsdam, and liaison for the Star Lake Campus at SUNY Potsdam. She enjoyed golf, music, reading, writing, theater, and evenings on the dock at Lake Titus.

She is survived by her sister Janet Kilburn of Malone, and children Frederick and (Laura White) Van Deusen, Carlie and (Irving) Robinson, and Mimi Van Deusen: seven grandchildren; Trevor and (Aja) Van Deusen, MA; Kristen Van Deusen, NH; Kara and (Seth)Copes, MS; Mark and (Emily Orologio) LaFountain, NY; Brett Jesmer, WY; Chorben V. Miller and (Zach Johnstone) KY; and Lydia J.V. Miller and (Bradley Eddison) Ottawa, CA. Great Grandchildren: Benjamin Van Deusen, MA; Madison, Morgan and Katie Copes, MS; and Kayden P. Curtis, KY: Azure LaFountain,NY.

Connie will be fondly remembered for her quick wit, smile and sunny disposition and missed deeply by her family and friends.
