Bethany was born on December 6, 1942 in Lowville, New York to William and Mafalda "Mae" (Lorenzini) Howley. She was a 1961 graduate of General Martin Central School in Glenfield, NY and met her husband, Leonard, while living in Glenfield. They married on August 14th, 1965 and she spent her life as a wife and mother. They lived in several locations including Saranac Lake, West Carthage and Massena. She was involved in politics and was the first woman elected to West Carthage Board of Trustees.
Bethany is survived by her daughters Julie (Thomas) Van Buren of Canton, NY; and Jennifer (Donald) Gottstine of Tillson, NY; her grandchildren Harrison (fiancée Kaleigh Field) Van Buren, Grant Van Buren, Cade Van Buren and Brody Van Buren, Canton, NY; her brother Michael Howley of Myrtle Beach, SC, her sisters Joan Whalen, of Goodyear, AZ; Judy Marmon, of Port Leyden, NY and Anne Howley-O'Brien of Lake Anna, VA; sisters in law Carol Howley of Tuscaloosa, AL and Dolores Hoffman, Lowville, NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bethany was preceded in death by her husband Leonard F. Hoffman, in 2011; her mother and father, Mae and William Howley; her brother Philip Howley: brothers in law Dominic "Bud" Whalen, Charles McLaughlin, William Marmon and Charles O'Brien: and sister in law Susan Howley. Also in laws Rollian and Virginia Martin, Russell and Jane Hoffman, Harold and Dianne Hoffman and Lowell Hoffman.
Family and friends will gather from 12P-1P for visitation on Monday, October 21st, 2024, at the Garner Funeral Service in Potsdam. A service will follow at the funeral home.
