Zachary E Thompson, our gentle giant, our son, our brother, our friend, was born on March 18, 1982. He grew up in Portland, ultimately attending Equipment Engineering Courses at Mt. Hood Community college. Zachary found employment working for Microchip Technology, Inc., as an equipment Technician.
Outside of work, Zachary pursued his hobbies with passion and voracity, thoroughly sinking himself into his interests. Like Zachary himself, his interests were dynamic, creative, and engaging. They ranged from rock climbing to pottery, from disc golf to woodworking, and from motorcycles to attending concerts. Many of his hobbies centered around Art. Whether he was creating it with photography or collecting it on his walls or on his skin, he wanted the world around him to be beautiful.
As Vincent Van Gogh said, “There is nothing more truly artistic than to love people,” and ‘Love’, Zachary did. Zachary placed enormous value in the relationships he created, especially with his best friend, Meghan Opbroek. He was also drawn to the companionship that comes with nurturing animals, and he was particularly fond of his best canine friends, his dogs Lil Homie and Roxy. He will be remembered as a kind, soft spoken man who would do anything for his friends and family.
Zachary is survived by people who will miss him dearly: his mom, Candi Thompson; brother, Brandon Thompson (Katie Bergen); Grandfather, Robert Wilhelmi; and Uncle, Curt Wilhelmi (Chris).
A celebration of Zachary’s life will be held at Candi’s home on August 13th at 2pm. All who love Zachary are welcome.
In Lieu of flowers, please donate to your local Humane Society in Zachary’s memory.
And as you move through your day, please pass on Zachary’s kindness, honor his love of art, or hug a dog – or better yet, maybe try all three.
