Wing Ho Wong

Wing was born in China on September 28, 1938. He spent his early life there until he moved to Hong Kong in 1957 and worked in a textile factory. He met and later married his wife, Sou, on May 12, 1959. They raised their three children Wayne, Lily, and Amy in Hong Kong until immigrating to Portland in August 1969.

Wing was a force of nature and was determined to provide for his family. He worked most of his life in the restaurant industry as the head cook of a popular Chinese American restaurant until it was sold. Always wanting to keep busy, he later found a job working in the deli department at a Fred Meyer close to home until his retirement.

Wing enjoyed traveling and visited China and Hong Kong on multiple occasions. He sailed on several cruises to Mexico, Alaska, and the Caribbean. He appreciated dining on the fine cuisine on his road trips with the family to Canada and California. He enjoyed fishing, reading the newspaper, and following his favorite sports teams: the Blazers, Cowboys, and Oregon Duck football. His most favorite times were spent playing Mahjong with his grandchildren.

Wing was a tough warrior and never gave up no matter what. He embraced life and lived it to its fullest. He was humble, honest, proud, and strong. He was a family man and really enjoyed the many get-togethers with his children and grandchildren during the holidays and birthdays. His family meant more to him than anything else in the world, something he often mentioned.

His life as a husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend will forever be remembered with love, compassion, and joy. Wing will be greatly missed by all and forever honored by his family.
