William E. Root was born March 16th, 1937, in Twin Falls, Idaho, to parents Lewis and Nina (Ingram) Root. He was raised in Portland, Oregon in the Parkrose area and he graduated from Parkrose High School.
Bill was enlisted in the US Navy Reserves and attended Portland Community College from which he received an Associate Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married Kathryn Klopfenstein in Portland, Oregon on February 13th, 1960, in Portland. Bill worked for Boeing for a short period before he began a 15 year service as a Mechanical Engineer for Tektronix (1965 – 1980). He was one of the first designers for "Floating Point". He later worked for Intel for many years and retired in 2005 as a Senior Mechanical Engineer. Bill appreciated old cars and loved to go to car shows. He also enjoyed playing golf.
Bill is predeceased by his loving wife of 47 years, Kathryn (2007); and his parents Lewis and Nina Root. Survivors include his son John (wife Karrie); a sister, Eileen “Toni” Balough; and his grandson, Micheal J. Root.
Bill will be privately laid to rest in Skyline Memorial Gardens in Portland, OR
