He was raised in the Portland area, attending Central Catholic and Gresham High School. He enlisted in the United States Army, and spent his military career in Texas, and abroad in Germany. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he settled in Estacada, Oregon, where he worked for Sears Roebuck & Co. before opening up his own business Bennett's Tire Sales & Service. He built up his company from the back of a pick-up truck to a successful operation with years of hard work, He supported his family with his hard work, and oftentimes worked seven days a week to do so.
He loved crabbing and fishing. He was an avid boater, and as a younger man, his passion was riding motorcycles. He also spent countless hours with his children auto racing at the circle track.
He is survived by his wife, Gerie Bennett, sons Michael and Scott Bennett, daughters Laurie and Kathy Bennett, and grandson Kristopher Bennett. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother William Bennett,
Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 2:00pm at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Portland, with burial to follow at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 3 from 10:00am until 5:00pm.
