Lahti, Virgie Johnson 99 Feb. 14, 1916 Jan. 25, 2016 Virgie Johnson Lahti passed away peacefully Jan. 25, 2016, at the age of 99, after a brief stay at Legacy Hopewell House Hospice, where she was surrounded by many loving family members. Virgie was born Feb. 14, 1916, in Lake Lillian, Minn. to Olaf Hanson and Marion Hall. She graduated from Bird Island High School in 1933. Virgie and Lester Johnson were married in 1934, had five children and farmed in the area. In 1955, they moved to Oregon. Lester was in housing construction with his brother-in-law, Warren "Bud" Hanson in the Garden Home area and Virgie worked at Tektronix for eight years. Lester died in 1967, at the age of 54. In 1972, Virgie married Arne Lahti. In 1976, they retired and moved to Mesa, Ariz. They enjoyed 28 years of living the good life. Age was taking its toll so they moved back to Oregon to Summerfield Clubhouse Estates in 2004. Arne passed away in 2006, at age 85. In 2013, Virgie moved to Woodland Heights Assisted Living in Tigard. Virgie is survived by her children, Eunice (Gene) Sause, Merrill (Diane) Johnson and Duaine (Debra) Johnson; 10 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; five great-great- grandchildren; sisters, Doris Holm, Marge Lindahl and Mary Shelton; stepdaughters, Corinne (Dan) Blum and Aileen (Mike) Lederman; five step-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents; husbands, Lester and Arne; baby, Venetta; son, Darwin; brother, Warren "Bud" Hanson; and sister, Wynonne Christensen. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, 2016, at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park. Remembrances may be made to Legacy Hopewell House Hospice or a charity of your choice.
