Todd Joseph Doty was born in Billings, Montana on February 23, 1954, to Joseph Kenneth Doty and Corinne Andrus Doty. He is the fourth of 6 children. His siblings include Linda, Mike, Steve, Kevin and Lori. The family moved from Billings to Portland, Oregon in June of 1963. Todd attended Wilkes Elementary School, Columbia View Middle School and Reynolds High School. After high school, he attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho and Portland State University. He served as a full-time missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the London South Mission from 1974-1976.
After his mission, he met and married Cathryn Ann Franck on September 14, 1977, in the Idaho Falls Temple. They have three children: Jessie Lyn born in March 1979, Seth Andrus in March 1981 and Katie Ann in May 1983. Todd and Cathy raised their family in NE Portland. Todd followed his father’s footsteps and worked in the insurance field for his career. He worked for Benjamin Franklin Savings and Loan, Carl T. Clark Agency, Cuna Mutual, Bank Insure and in his final professional years he owned and operated Doty-Franklin Insurance in North Portland.
As a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Todd spent countless hours in the service of his Heavenly Father ministering to the people of NE Portland. He found much joy and fulfillment in his church service. He made lifelong friendships with those he served faithfully for all these many years.
His greatest joy in life was his marriage and family. As busy as he was, he always found time to volunteer at school fundraisers, coaching sports teams, and date nights with his wife. He enjoyed hiking and fishing, especially in Eastern Oregon in the Anthony Lakes region. He also enjoyed photography. His family always came first, and he would drop everything if his family asked him to be there for them.
He was a loving grandfather to his 11 grandsons and 1 granddaughter. He had endless Big Foot stories, dad jokes and stories from his high school days that kept his grandchildren entertained and maybe a tad terrified.
His family would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at Peace Health Southwest in Vancouver for their compassionate care in his last few months and days. Todd passed peacefully on April 23, 2024.
