Sylvia R. Nelson was born May 29, 1927, in Huron, S.D. to parents' Leonard and Anna LeValley. After a long illness, she passed away March 24, 2017, surrounded by members of her immediate family.
She was a child of the dust bowl, resettled in Salem, then Portland. Sylvia was well loved by family and friends, and her greatest joy was her immediate family. She also enjoyed the fellowship of her quilt group, and was an award winning quilter.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Kurt H. Nelson. She is survived by children, Donald W. Nelson (Suzanne), Ann Olive (Paul), and Debra Sewell (Alex); as well as grandchildren, Kristen Nelson and Helen Sewell.
