Sylvia Maxine (Matson) Cooper passed away with family by her side on Saturday, April 12th, 2025 in Happy Valley, Oregon. She was 100 years old. Born on December 3rd, 1924 in Portland, Oregon, she was the only child of Axel and Irene (Lindgren) Matson. Sylvia lived her entire life in the Portland area, attending Marysville Grade School and later graduating from Commerce (now Cleveland) High School in 1942. She used her business education from high school in bookkeeping roles for local companies until 1950, which is when she met and married Keith Cooper. They celebrated 38 years of marriage together and had three children, Shannon, Corry, and Shelley before Keith’s sudden death in 1988. Sylvia then helped support the family business, Cooper’s Auto Service (founded by Keith) for most of her remaining life. She was a giving person and is remembered by her grandchildren as being extremely generous, determined, self-assured, supportive, and most of all resilient. Sylvia has left behind an enduring legacy and countless memories for all those she encountered, though her family was her greatest pride.
Sylvia is survived by daughters Shannon (David) Cooper-Campagna and Shelley (Richard) Cooper-Kaiser, and son Corry (Denise) Cooper. Also included are grandchildren Taya (Andrew) Saxton, Chadwick (Nicole) Campagna, Laura (Robert) Hilts, Bryan Cooper, Jakob Kaiser, and Zackary Kaiser, plus great-grandchildren Theodore Saxton, Winston Saxton, Eleanore Campagna, and Henry Hilts.
Private services will be held at Lincoln Memorial Park and Funeral Home
