I am so sad to hear of Steve’s passing. As a former neighbor on 32nd Place, Steve was a true friend, and always willing to lend a hand. One of my fondest memories was when we skied together at Mt Bachelor. I knew Steve was a strong family man, and although it has been years, I hope they are all well. Ted Nolan

1969-1972 I knew Steve in his younger years beginning at Portland State University. Steve had a wonderful smile and laugh and at the time lived on the Columbia River, had a boat to water ski, and enjoyed time with his parents, family and dog 'Coco'.  They were very happy days and he enjoyed many friends.  I would like to extend my deepest respect and sympathies to his family and as my sister said when someone we loved went to Heaven. "There is no time limit on grief".  I look forward to see his smile in Heaven.  God Bless his family.

In 1941, Steve's grandparents, Glen and Mayme Milne, convinced my parents, Orvil and Tillie Maust, to move to Oregon.  The Milnes and the Mausts enjoyed years and years of friendship, laughter and celebrations.  We were so sorry to hear of Steve's passing and extend our deepest sympathy to his family.

My family lived down the street from Steve and Catherine when we lived in West Linn. He was the personality of the neighborhood and everyone liked him. He got the first BMW SUV in town and he was happy to tell me all about it when I showed curiosity. He was so friendly and engaging that even my teenagers liked him. My daughter Ashley babysat Molly when she was young. We were saddened to hear of his Alzheimer's from Catherine a year or so ago. I just couldn't picture that man not a vital and tuned in dad. So sorry to hear of his passing but glad that he is in heaven and has his mind back so he can watch over his family. Thinking of you all.

I worked with Steven at WESSCO for about eight years.  I will always remember Steven for his excellent leadership qualities and his big heart.   He instilled confidence in me as an employee, and I will never forget his kindness and strength of character in many areas.  I thank God for his life and plan to see him in Eternity once I get there.  Glorene Drake

I knew Steve in his younger years.  Our parents were good friends and we enjoyed many good times together.  Steve, Jon, and Marc were like little brothers to me.  We enjoyed playing with Brenda (the dog) and playing games.  I'm so sorry to hear of his passing.  My thoughts are with all of the family.

Catherine and Molly 2 Timothy 4:6-8 says  "For I am ready being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.  I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.  Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the  Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing."  This passage of scripture best describes Steve's walk with The Lord.  You and Molly are in our hearts and prayers.

I'm going to miss my cousin Steve. Thank you Steve for the great memories and fun we had together. Your laughter, advice, friendship and teachability were memorable and infectious. I'm so sorry you had to suffer the way you did at the end. You would have been proud of the way Catherine, Margie and others visited you and tried to take care of you. You were indeed blessed and loved. I remember giving you a bible about 30 years ago and watching you light up with enthusiasm. I remember sometime later when you got serious about reading it. I remember too when you came to the end of yourself in a time of personal crisis and gave yourself to the God you read about in your bible and so committed yourself learn, grow and serve in your relationship with His Son. God took your abundant natural abilities and turned them into talents used for His kingdom. Now you are with our Father in heaven being used in even greater ways. In that way I'm jealous, longing to be where you are. You've run race and fought the good fight and now you have entered into the full joy of your Father in Heaven. I would rather have had you around for more years, but ours not to choose the time of our departure. He is sovereign and He is good.  You weren't perfect, rather like all of us you were far from it, but you were growing and changing and becoming more and more like the image of His son. A day will come when I will come to see you again. I look forward to hanging with you, telling stories, laughing and praising God together forever. Until then I will miss you. I am proud to be your cousin and your friend. See you soon.

Catherine and Molly , I was so saddened to learn of Stevens passing!! I think of you guys every tine I drive by your house.....May the  love and support of those close to you, bring the support you need during this difficult tine!!

I first met Steve in college at PSU. We became friends and hung out together during those college years and for several years after. We both participated in the Active 20/30 club where we did a lot for disadvantaged kids. I will miss Steve and his enthusiasm for life. I know he is with a loving God and savior now.

Steve was an enthusiastic member of the Ti level Fitness community a number of years ago.  I had the pleasure of teaching early morning classes to Steve and Catherine when I owned the facility.  I will always remember his engaging smile and his powerful spirit. So sorry to hear he is gone.

I had Steve in several of my classes at Grant. Always had a smile on his face. I will miss not talking to him at our reunions. Prayers go out to his family.

I first met Steve in the early '60's at Grant High School and appreciated his smile and ready laugh.  After many years we reconnected while on our high school reunion committee and once again enjoyed his sense of humor and his energy. Steve was a good friend and neighbor. We will always remember that great smile, and that little glimmer in the eye that made one wonder what is he going to get us to commit to next. He was a co-conspirator in the great Halloween Spook House. Over the years he was always ready to come up with new and creative ways to bring some fear to the children and also some adults. Steve was a contributor to the community through Active 20/30 and many others to include the West Union School Board which he became chair. A event that always seems to bring a smile was just after Steve had surgery and was recuperating at home, the area was hit with some snow. Steve could not stand being inside while we enjoyed the snow, so he came outside to watch. Bad decision. We started throwing snowballs at him,very accurately, and he moved as quickly as he could, which was not very fast, back into the house. We all laughed about this one Steve included for many years. We will remember with great fondness the smile and great personality that was Steve. Our thoughts and prayers are with family.

Steve touched our lives when he decided to move back to NE Portland.  Steve, Catherine and Molly were a happy addition to our close knit block and joined in our annual Block Party - Steve one of the master BBQ masters.  I will remember Steve and his wonderful smile, active life style and his love of family and of course his dog Max.  Steve touched many lives and his spirit will live on in all those who knew him.  Prayers for the family.

1985....sometime in June I first spoke to Steven. We had never met but a mutual friend suggested Steven reach out to me. That day was the start of beautiful friendship. Steven will be in my heart and soul till we meet up again.
I will never forget the journey we shared together. Our relationship was one of mutual respect and love. We grew together as men, husbands and teachers. Steven helped me so much and I want to believe that I helped him as well...we laughed,cried and healed together. And of course there was golf!!! Steven loved the outdoors and on the golfcourse he got to see alot of it...water, sand, trees and once in awhile the green!!!

Steven came into my life when I was 4 years old.  He taught my brother and me so much about life and manners and kindness.  Steven was involved in the Active 20/30 Club and as a family, we were always doing things for others.  Whether it be volunteering for road races or helping with Special Olympics.  We were taught at an early age compassion and empathy.  That also included putting together Thanksgiving and Christmas box dinners for the Sunshine Division.
When I started grade school, Pops (that is what Tim and I called him), would walk me to school.  Once we moved to Alameda, he would walk me to the corner of 58th and Sandy and I would walk the rest of the way.  He trusted me and had faith in me I would arrive safely.  
Camping and road trips were also a big part of our life with Pops.  We went swimming during a lightning storm while my mom watched from the window yelling get back inside.  But we were having fun and knew Pops was looking out for us.  
I have great memories of living in Rock Creek and the neighbors.  We were always getting together playing basketball, snowball fights, swimming in the Florigs pool and then the famous Halloween extravaganzas that we put on every year. We grew up on the best street and had the best friends.
Pops, was in very influential person in my life.  I feel that so much of who I am today, is because he was in my life.  I will miss him more than words can say and I am thankful I was able to call him Pops.
