Sara Elizabeth Werner, born in Alameda, CA was the youngest of eight. Before turning a year old, the family moved to a farm in Freshwater, not far from Eureka. The farm allowed Sara to have a wild imagination, playing king of the hill on a cow and climbing trees. She was a unique child, some days a playful little girl, while other days she chose to be a cow, dog or other farm animal. On these days she would communicate with her mom by mooing, barking, or speaking like other farm animals.
She brought her uniqueness into adulthood with authenticity and a ‘no regret’ attitude. The purest of hearts, compassionate, kind, honest, empathetic, and often child like. Sara loved life! She found joy in grand adventures and life’s little things. Her smile could light up a room, and was the kind of smile that was hard to forget.
Sara was a caretaker at heart, always wanting to put the needs of others before her own. She gave of herself freely, making the comfort of others a priority.
Sara was taken too soon, but is now cancer free. She’s without pain, and is at peace. We will take comfort in that knowing.
Sara wanted family and friends to come together on this day to celebrate her! So, let’s get her party started.
To know Sara, was to love Sara….
~
When I think of my sister Sara, the first thing that comes to mind is how talented she was. She was very crafty and creative. My favorite thing of all times is the cross-stitch Giraffe she did for me. It is just beautiful. It looks like a picture you might take at the zoo and is proudly displayed above my mantle. From writing and illustrating a kid's book in German, to making simply twisted rock jewelry out of polished rock, to building masterpieces out of wood and metal she was gifted and so creative. She made beautiful cards and of course humorous funny cards too. I always thought she should have a store to display her talents.
My sister Sara was the Godmother to my girls Brianna and Ashley. I could always count on her to be there for me. She was always willing to babysit for me and entertain the girls. Sara was a clown for some time and this came in handy at the girl’s school carnivals and birthday parties. Sara never complained about spending time with her “Squirrels”, Brianna and Ashley. Let’s not forget the PINK Easter bunny on Easter. Sara was always game to have some fun!
I cannot even count how many camping trips we did together. I remember the one at Loeb Campground on the Chetco River, Sara was explaining the difference between “Shit and Shat” we laughed and laughed and the camp host came over to tell us to quit drinking or we would have to leave, but we hadn’t had a drink of alcohol. Sara always had a good story to tell also.
We took a lot of trips from the mountains to the coast always to look for treasures and then stop to have a fabulous meal together. Sara loved going out to dinner together with family and friends, of course she loved going to the Olive garden because it was moms favorite place..
We always had huge family gatherings for the holidays. Sara would make her 5LB Apple pie and her famous deviled eggs. Even when we couldn’t get together during the pandemic Sara drew a picture of all who would attend our “Friends Giving” and made copies of it to put in the Thanks Giving dinner boxes, this way we would all be together.
Sara was big on adventures as you can gather but let’s not forget her endless searches for Big Foot, her keen eye looking for Aliens that might be about. But most of all the many Ghost Hunting adventures with her friends. I did think she was crazy when she took mom to the penitentiary to look for ghosts, but Sara was right mom loved it! Sara was one of a kind. But most of all I loved my baby sister because we could agree to disagree on many things but respect each other’s perspective. And move on and enjoy life together with family and friends who let her be her true self. I want to thank you Kim, for bringing Sara true Happiness and Love.
