Sandy was born on April 26, 1943, to Ivan and Kay Kniss in Portland, Oregon. Sandy graduated from Madison High School in 1961. In 2003 right after her 3rd grandchild was born she retired from the Parkrose School District as an educational assistant.
In 1962, she met Frank L. Bass, Jr., they wed in November 1962. Sandy and Frank were devoted to each other and were married for 57 years. They lived in the same home for over 50 years in Northeast Portland. It was hard to find Sandy without Frank right by her side. Frank and Sandy had two sons, David and John Bass.
Sandy enjoyed many activities throughout her life like sewing and traveling to Central Oregon and the coast. She was a devoted sister, mother, and grandma. She enjoyed playing miniature golf with her granddaughters. Family was very important to her and could often be found at various family gatherings and events. She will be always remembered for her famous pickles hor d'oeuvres that were requested for her to bring to every family function. Sandy and Frank hosted many, many family gatherings over the years that were enjoyed by everyone.
Sandy was kind, generous, and always had a positive attitude that made her a strong support for her family. She always looked to the bright side of things and rarely complained because she just thought that was a waste of time. Always ready to listen, she didn’t put expectations on others and simply accepted people and loved them for who they were. Sandy had a beautiful smile and our family had cherished moments when we all laughed so hard it brought tears to her eyes.
Sandy will be dearly missed by all that we’re blessed to know her. She was preceded in death by husband Frank L. Bass, Jr. She is survived by sons David and John Bass, daughter-in-laws June and Tatiana Bass, brother Roy Kniss, sister-in-law Niki Kniss, sister-in-law Carolann Tripp, grandchildren Kate, Adi and Makenna Bass, step-grandchildren Isabella, and Joshua Makens, also many nieces and nephews in the Portland area. In lieu of flowers please make a charitable contribution to the American Heart Association in Sandy’s name or a favorite charity. A celebration of life will be held at a later time.
Please share memories and condolences with her family here on her memorial page.
