Rowena Sue Dumo Nisperos, born on August 18, 1965, in Tamuning, Guam, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, in Portland, Oregon, after a courageous battle with cancer. Her life was marked by love, resilience, and joy, and she touched the hearts of everyone who knew her.
After growing up in Guam and attending Brodie Memorial School, Rowena moved to the United States at the age of 24. She continued her education in California’s Hayward Unified School District and made her home in San Jose, where she lived with her sister in law Susan and her brother Roland, who cared for her deeply. She also spent time living with her sister Joanne in California. During these years, Rowena participated in the Paralympics for track and field, demonstrating her unwavering determination and strength.
Rowena found happiness in the simple joys of life—cutting paper into tiny pieces, working on crossword puzzles, and watching her favorite soap opera, The Young and the Restless. A devoted sports fan, she cheered for the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bulls during Michael Jordan’s era, and later, the San Antonio Spurs. Rowena loved bowling, dancing, and savoring margaritas with family and friends.
Always eager to celebrate the milestones of her loved ones, Rowena cherished visiting new homes and sharing in the successes of her family and friends. Whether she was dancing at a gathering or laughing with loved ones, her joyful spirit and laughter shined through.
In 2018, Rowena bravely battled cancer and overcame it. When cancer returned in 2022, she faced it with the same courage, surrounded by the unwavering love of her family and friends.
Rowena’s family was her greatest treasure. She is survived by her sister in law Susan, her oldest brother Roland in Oregon, her sister Joanne in California; and her youngest brother Ryan in Guam. She also leaves behind extended family and many friends who loved her dearly.
