Born on December 14, 1923 in Portland, Oregon she was the youngest of three children born to Alfred Lorenzo Mansfield and Rosemary Bowdon Skipworth. Her early childhood was spent in NE Portland. She had happy memories of Grant Park and fond memories of life on the coast in Aberdeen prior to moving to Tacoma.
Graduating from Aquinas Academy in 1941, Rosemary went on to what is now University of Puget Sound when WWII interrupted her studies and changed her life. On August 2, 1944 she married Thomas Gianelli. She was a devoted wife and mother to their growing family. After Tom finished his studies and residencies they moved their family to Saratoga, California where they set up a home and medical practice. In 1963 they returned to the northwest where they finished raising and educating their children, eventually retiring in 1983.
Descended from Oregon pioneers, Rosemary was an active member of DAR and Colonial Dames, enjoyed politics and golf. The years she spent working in Senator Packwood’s office and volunteering at the Portland Art Museum were particularly fulfilling.
Rosemary was preceded in death by her husband, Tom; and daughter, Mary Lucille Gianelli.
She is survived by Rosemary Anne “Bonnie” (Gregory) Williams, Thomas Joseph “TJ” Gianelli, John David (Darlene) Gianelli, Laura Mary (Walter Receconi) Gianelli, and Patricia Mary (Curt) Gleaves; grandchildren, John T. (Magdalena) Gleaves, Clifford P. Gleaves, and Thomas W. Receconi; and great grandchildren, Tomasz and Henryk Gleaves.
