Rose Hitter nee Arcuri was born on October 5, 1930 to Frank and Angela Maria Arcuri in Lorado, West Virginia and she died on December 3, 2010 at the Hopewell House Hospice in Portland, Oregon following several strokes.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Ralph Vincent Hitter, Sr.; their five children: Ralph Hitter Jr. of Fresno, CA; Don Hitter of Seattle, WA; Paul Hitter of Fresno, CA; Patty Alcutt of West Linn; and Jim Hitter of Fresno, CA. She was one of 10 children and is survived by her 9 siblings: Francis Craig, Jo Arcuri, Theresa Linkous, Virginia Williams, Mary Terry, her twin brother Don Arcuri, Julius Arcuri, Margret Wessels, and Ben Arcuri. She also has 15 Grandchildren and 14 Great Grandchildren
Before she was married in 1953, Rose worked for the Naval Department in Washington D.C. She stayed at home to raise their 5 children from 1954 until 1968 when she began to work for the CB at the Naval Base in Oxnard, CA. She then briefly worked for the I.R.S. in Fresno, CA, followed by a 25 year tenure with the Sierra National Forest Service. She retired in 1994 and worked part-time as the secretary of the family vacuum and sewing machine business. She enjoyed interstate traveling and visiting family, and caring for and for remodeling her house and yard in Fresno.
Rose will affectionately remembered for her strength of personality, her love and care for her family and her hospitality and amazing cooking on holidays and family gatherings.
