Robert (Bob) Robson was born in Seaside, Oregon to Mabel (Knowles) and Robert Miller Robson on March 11, 1925, the youngest of 4 children. His siblings Elizabeth, Dorothy and John; his parents; and his daughter Mary (Craig) Bowe preceded him in death. He leaves his wife of 65 years, Carol; his children Peter (Sue) Robson, Julie Pronovost, Susan (Michael) Lewis, and Robert (Tracy) Robson; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Growing up in Portland, Bob attended Portland Public Schools and graduated from Benson Polytechnic High School. He entered military service in July of 1943 and was a member of the Medical Branch of the U.S. Army. During the conflict in Europe he was stationed in France, earning a Bronze Star. He was transferred to an aid station in Germany after the conflict had ended and ultimately left the Army in 1946.
After the army, Bob attended the University of Oregon. He was a member of the Phi Sigma Kappa fraternal organization, holding the position of Pledge Master. Bob and Carol married in December of 1949. They purchased their home in northeast Portland in June of 1950 where they raised their 5 children, retired and grew old together.
Bob began his career as a carpenter working for his father. He was employed by E. Carl Schiewe, Inc. for 26 years as a Construction Superintendent on commercial building sites and was a life member of the Carpenters Union Local #247. His skills as a carpenter enabled him to add on to and remodel the family home.
Camping at the beach, hunting and fishing on the Deschutes River were some of Bob’s favorite things to do. He was a member of the Elks Lodge #142. After retirement he frequently played golf with his friends, completed and framed many puzzles, and went on several European vacations with Carol and members of their church. He loved visits from his grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as spending holidays with his family. An avid University of Oregon Ducks and Portland Trailblazer fan, he thoroughly enjoyed watching their games and coaching from the living room.
Bob passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at the age of 90. He will be greatly missed by his family.
A funeral mass will be held Thursday, May 21, 2015 at St. Rita Catholic Church. A reception follows in the Church hall
