was born October 27th, 1921 in Canton, Ohio to Hiram Clifford and Jesse Marie (Criss) Roberts and was the youngest of two children. He grew up helping on the family farm until he enlisted as a Chaplain’s Assistant in the Army on May 12, 1943. He was honorably discharged on November 2nd, 1945 and began attending the University of Oregon where he met and married Dixie Marie Hinshaw, his wife of 59 years. After he graduated with a Bachelors of Arts in music, they moved to Columbus, Ohio where he began his broadcasting career. In 1953, Bob moved his growing family to Corvallis, Oregon where he worked at KOAC radio as a producer and announcer. In 1964 he was transferred to Portland, Oregon to help launch the new FM radio station, KOAP, where he worked as a producer, announcer, and resident prankster until his retirement in 1986. He was an accomplished singer and maintained his vocal prowess in various local church and community choirs and was a frequently requested soloist.
Bob passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family. He was preceded in death by his sister Ruth Cavanagh, his wife Dixie, and his daughter Janet Rae and his great-granddaughter Naomi Rose. He is survived by four children; Jonnie Newman, Marta Ponce, Charles Roberts, and Rosalie Lund; five nieces, five grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.
