Robert C. Kuhnert of Portland passed away after a courageous battle against Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Our Beloved Bob was an inspiration to many as he gracefully lived a life with a never quit, never complain attitude during a forty year struggle with Multiple Sclerosis.
He was born in Pleasanton, CA on an Air Force Base to Robert Sr. and Opal (Granger) Kuhnert. He started college at the University of West Virginia, finishing his degree in Business Administration at the University of Oregon after his family moved out west. He continued his studies at Southern Oregon earning degrees in Economics and Computer Science, which was a developing field at that time.
He started his career at Oregon Telco Credit Union, or Unitus beginning as a teller and ultimately serving as Chief Information Officer and on the Board. He retired in 2007 due to health concerns, but stayed active in his Home Owners Association to keep his brain sharp.
In his youth, Bob was a decorated Scholar and a superb three sport athlete. He was a tremendously talented Baseball pitcher and had fond memories of playing with his brothers on teams coached by their Dad. He loved to travel the world with his family, especially to warm sunny destinations. He was passionate about the Portland TrailBlazers and held season tickets for many years. He really enjoyed live music events and being outdoors in Nature. Always the Life of the Party, Bob was an incredibly intelligent, genuine person with a contagious smile. He never expected much, but blessed many without hesitation. He was such a kind, caring Soul.
His greatest loves in life are his dear wife Rhea and his new extended family in the Philippines who brought such joy to his final years. He cherished his amazing children and time spent with his grandchildren. He was so honored by the legacy of his precious grandsons bearing his name.
He is predeceased by his Father Robert and his Brother Brad.
