He was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio to parents Ralph and Helen Householder. Robert was the third of four children. He served in the Ohio National Guard and then in the U.S. Navy. While on leave in Portland in 1956, he met the woman who would become his wife, Eloise Laverne Lowe. They were married in August of 1957 in Portland after Robert's discharge from the Navy. Thay returned Ohio for a short period before returning to Portland to raise their family. Robert and Eloise were happily married for forty-three years before cancer took the love of his life in 2000.
Robert worked as a truck driver for Consolidated Freightways, Freightliner and retired from Berg Evans Chain Co.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife, his two brothers and his sister. Robert is survived by three sons Ralph E. and wife Marilyn; Richard E. and David A. and wife Debra. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Hillary, Amber, Kyle, Nick, Michael and Matthew; also many friends and people who cared for him.
