I just miss your laughter and your in my heart give Mom and Dad a big kiss from Ms. Tricia I can hear you saying it the way you did and a HUGE SMILE come to my face I love you Unkie Dick :)

How I miss our annual Christmas phone call!  I knew something was wrong, but I didn't realize you had passed last January until just now.  My heart aches!  I loved all the years at HK together and beyond.  I will miss you dearly my sweet, witty friend!

You are in my heart to this day..and beyond.  I will always recall how you introduced me to Foxgloves.  Your description so accurate yet my imagination not so much.  I answered Squirrel Mittens for the name of that flower.  I will forever remember how much I made you laugh and how you loved to share the story with everyone.  When I met you at HK LTD , You were the most caring person I had met in the city.  You were always so creative and full of great stories. I have ventured out very far from Oregon ..but I still recall you and those that I love so much from HK.  Miss your smiles and stories. Dear Reed, Richie, Miles, Dearest Carla,

I was saddened to learn of Dick's passing yesterday via the NW Examiner. (Snow days prevented receipt of the Oregonian when his obit was published.) What wonderful memories I have of spending time with your family, including Dick. I remember him being so easy going, cheerful, loving and nonjudgmental. His kindness and uniqueness still resonate, which feels like a gift. 

When I ran into Dick at FM a couple of years ago, among other updates, he expressed his loving admiration of you, Carla. Indeed I believe my skills as a mother were improved due to my observation of your efforts all those many years ago. Many thanks, and much appreciation.

Dear Dick/daddy,
Did you see the grand party you had? At the MAC no less, with a mystery guest singer even.
Thank you for sharing silly jokes, catty remarks, glitter, schmaltz and all things beautiful .  Thank you for sharing your sons with all of daughters-in-laws present and past. We see you in each of "the boys" so you are still with us.
 You gave me a very special gift this past year for which I am ever grateful, the sense that I could make a difference. Thank you.

My Uncle Dick (more fondly called, "Unkie" Dick) was the wittiest person I've ever known. Get him and my dad (his brother) together...and oh boy, you were in for many belly laughs. There was this one afternoon in 1972 that I will never forget. As usual, Unkie Dick was over for cocktails and dinner on a Sunday. I was 16 and my dad gave my sister and I permission to take the car for the very first time to go to the movies.  All excited, I went to back out of the garage. Looked over my 'right' shoulder, but not my left (big mistake there) and barely exited the garage when BAM...I hit Unkie Dick's white Cougar that he had just purchased from my grandmother. Uh-oh, I knew I was in trouble now! My dad was furious and going to the movies was off. But, Uncle Dick...he couldn't stop laughing at the ordeal. I creamed his front passenger headlight area, yet he was more concerned for me then his car. That's the kinda guy Unkie Dick was...loving, caring and so very witty.  Until we meet again, Unkie Dick, enjoy yuckin' it up with mom and dad on the other side. You will be greatly missed!

Dick- You will forever be in my memory on the HK Lmted sign boards at the brand new Pioneer Cthse Square.  I only rode the bus one year but I saw you every day for a year!  Your warm personality and wit were always a high spot in my day.  God bless.

Great Party yesterday to celebrate my dad's life. My sincere thanks to all who attended and for those that couldn't, but still had him in your hearts. We'll miss you Dad!

Okay Dick, this is your big day.  Where all your family and friends gather together to honor your life. To have images and memories of the part each of us played in your life.  Many of us were fortunate to share your last few days with you.  Where you rallied enough to be your old witty an caring self to nurses, doctors, hospital staff, family and friends.  You gave  us the gift of letting each of your grandchildren, sons, their wives, and friends say goodbye to you.  You had a special response for each, given with some humor and sincere love.  With tears and laughter, here's to you.

My dearest Uncle Dick every year like clock work we'd talk and it was as if we were never far apart, we'd laugh that wonderful laugh of his and priceless story's remembering Mom and Dad and we would tell each other about the family and what every one was up too, after the phone call I would smile for days remembering something funny he had said always telling me well Miss Trciaaaa I love you and you come see me soon and I would say oh yes maybe this will be the year Unkie Dick and after almost 27 years he is bring me home to honor and remember with Carla and Reed, Rich and Miles and all the one's I love just how truly special he is in my heart. I feel great confort knowing he is looking down with my Mom, Dad and they are all laughing together until we are together again Unkie Dick I love you and I will miss our talks. All my love all my heart always:)

I too worked with Dick at H.K. Ltd.  It was my first job and I loved the days Dick was in the store as he always added some fun and a little mischief too. We have stayed in touch all these years through random encounters downtown.  Throughout that time he was able to meet my future husband, father and 2 boys who are now grown men.  He always asked about them and they would occasionally ask about my friend Dick.  I could always count on a Christmas phone call sometime in December.  This year it didn't come...
A true testament to a great man that we too feel such a great loss.

Dick was a good friend and neighbor.  My wife Martha and I will miss him, his great smile, and his enormous good will. Rest in peace, good friend.

We have wonderful memories of growing up neighbors and friends(Reed,Richie,Miles & Carla-you were always a role-model for me).Dick was always so friendly at his store and never forgot a face. Dick was one of our closest friends all the time we lived in the Portland area and remained close even when we moved to Palm Springs, Calif.  We shared so many laughs and fun times and had a good time on our boat. He will be very much missed. We can't believe he won't be in Portland the next time we visit. He will always live in our hearts.

To Richard's family, I am so sorry for your loss.  
Dick, I will miss you.  You have been the face and heart of that row of houses for a long time. You were always funny and warm.  We chatted about neighborhood things, household things, and I knew you were there holding down the fort.

My condolences to the family. Dick was loved by many of us and we've lost a bright light.

I worked with Dick for 5 years at HK Ltd, he was a pure joy each and every day! Everyone loved him, it was great to see his interactions with people, always a laugh and a smile!

Dick Rice was my cousin.  I knew him all of his life.  I am 93.  I am going to miss him. I remember that he loved horses and he had a horse. He lived on a ranch outside of Portland.  He was to me a dear friend. His mother Hattie Reeder and my mother Laura (Keaton, Stocker) Silvertooth were sisters. I hate to think that he is gone.  It's hard to believe.
