My family lived just down the street from Dick for 50 years. I was 12 when we moved there. One of my memories is when my dad had to retire early and after much prodding Dick got him involved in the Neighborhood watch. They would go to meetings once a week and other activities. I can remember trying to call my mom in the evening and the phone would be busy for hours (I am not kidding) I would check to see if the line was working. When I finally reached her she would tell me "Oh your dad talking to Dick". What on earth they talked about for so long I have no idea. But I will be forever grateful for the friendship they shared. Dad has been gone for 10 years and at his service Dick said "I thought I would go first".  Many years ago when our younger sister Dolly died Dick rented the house behind him to her husband Billy and his infant son Dalton. They lived there for many years which was so nice to have them close. Another surprise in August Billy died, so now the they are in heaven together. Bittersweet.
