Morris, Ralph L. 69 Nov. 08, 1947 Mar. 08, 2017 Ralph Leslie Morris passed away March 8, 2017 at the age of 69. He was born in Portland in 1947. Ralph attended Beaumont Grade School. Later, Ralph graduated from Grant High School in 1965. He was a member of the YMCA Swim Team and competed at the MAC Club. Ralph attended Multnomah College and enlisted in the 142d Fighter Wing as a Medic. Ralph married Sandra Steinmetz in 1968. They divorced in 1983. Ralph was hired in 1968 by the Portland Police Department. In 1969 he joined the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. He was assigned to Rocky Butte jail. Ralph was awarded the Medal of Valor as well as, thwarting a planned escape at the Multnomah County Detention Center. He was the highest earning employee in the Sheriff's office for at least five years. Ralph retired from the Sheriff's office after 26 years of service. Ralph was involved in his local community. He served on the Hunter Heights, Home Owners Association Board, and the Bakers Cabin Historical Society (often giving tours during the summer months). His hobbies included collecting fountain pens, selling fountain parts, and pen auctions. Ralph is survived by his daughter, Angela Morris; son, Ralph Lee Morris; and four grandchildren.
