Paul was born in the town of Elaine, Arkansas on August 25, 1943. He was the son of Gladys Irene Stone, and was raised by her and by his grandmother Laura McWhirter.
They eventually moved to Glendale, California, where Paul attended Roosevelt Junior High School and then Hoover High School.
He then enlisted in the US Marine Corps and served two tours in Vietnam. After his honorable service he worked for Amex Aluminum and attended night school at Chaffey Community College. Later he worked as a guard at the Chino prison.
In 1979, Paul and his family moved to Hermiston, Oregon, where he spent the rst of his career working at the Umatilla Army Depot, also serving in the Army Reserves and National Guard.
Paul spent the last decade of his life residing in Portland, Oregon.
Paul’s favorite hobbies were reading books, Facebook, and sharing stories about his grandkids. He absolutely loved being a grandpa.
Paul is survived by a brother, Bob Stone;
Sons Skip, Chris, and Brian;
Fifteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren;
And by his bird Sonny.
He will be laid to rest at Willamette National Cemetery with USMC honors at 9:30 AM on Friday, July 1, 2016, followed by a reception and Celebration of Life from 10 AM to Noon at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Public visitation will take place on Thursday, June 30 from 4 to 8 PM at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home.
