Celebration of life service will be held at Skyline Memorial Gardens on June 12th, 2013 at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow.
Paul was born in North Carolina on October 7, 1918. He grew up on a Tobacco farm. He joined the U.S. Navy when he was 18 years old. He traveled the world aboard many ships. The USS Augusta was the one he talked about the most. He retired from the Navy as a Chief Boatswains Mate in 1957. He was Vice President and General Manager of Stenno Carbon Co. until he retired in 1998 at the age of 80. Stenno Carbon Co. was his home away from home; he loved working there and ran it like his own. He liked to watch baseball and was a huge N.Y.Yankees fan. He loved to fish, bird hunt and garden, especially growing his tomatoes and giving baskets full to the fire dept., friends and neighbors. Paul always had hunting dogs but his last dog a German Shorthair named Chipper was his baby boy (100+ pound baby boy) that loved to sit on his lap. He loved that dog to no end but his baby passed away March 9th, 2013.
His wife of 41 years Violet who passed away in September 1987 precedes Paul in death.
Paul is survived by his love of many years Virginia Bringdale, she loved and took care of him staying by his side to the end. Also his two daughters Julie Wirth and husband Steven of California, and Debra Lister and husband David of Beaverton. He also had three stepchildren Maxine Elsaas and husband John of Washington, Deanna Cathcart and husband Don of Prineville, and Carlyle Barnard (deceased) and wife Annie of Washington. He had 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Providence Hospice Program and the Visiting Angels for their wonderful support and kindness in his final days.
