you were fortunate enough to count Paul among your friends, you can't help but smile
when you think of him. Paul died August 15, 2011 at his Portland, Oregon home.
Paul Richard Denkers was born November 13, 1965 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Glen R.
and Nancy P. Denkers. An avid skier, Paul spent the winters of his youth on the
Slopes of Sun Valley and Snowbird Ski resorts with his parents and beloved sister,
Ann. Summers found the foursome traveling the world, often in search of Paul's next
great scuba diving adventure.
Paul was educated, and forged numerous lifelong friendships at Rowland Hall St.
Mark's School. He later earned a Bachelor's Degree in History and International
Relations from Lewis and Clark college in Portland, Oregon - the city he called home
for the balance of his life.
In Portland, Paul became a highly successful banking executive. Fair-minded and
highly diplomatic, Paul earned and maintained the respect of his peers and the
people he lead. Paul possessed unimpeachable integrity and peerless loyalty. Simply
put, he was a class act.
Beneath Paul's outward expression of strength and determination, was a very
sensitive and emotional nature. Perhaps no one recognized this as clearly as Thomas
Grausam, who became the love of Paul’s life. Paul and Tom had a brilliant life
together. "Their relationship betokened the kind of respect and balance most can only
aspire to. Sharing Paul's passion for the culinary arts, fine wine, and the art of
entertaining, they created a rich, fun-filled life they enjoyed sharing with others.
Poised to celebrate their 10th Anniversary in Paris, Tom's life was tragically cut
short, leaving Paul and their beloved French Bulldog Ellie to carry on. His sister
Ann traveled with Paul to Paris to celebrate the life he and Tom shared together.
Paul found tremendous strength from Tom’s family over their shared loss.
AS much as anything, Paul relished his role as brother to Ann, and uncle to her
children Luke, Hope and Nick. Losing their mother early in life, and later their
Father, Paul and Ann found great comfort in believing they would grow old together. They continued traveling and spending holidays together as a family. Now, armed with the grace and dignity Paul demonstrated in life, his survivors will carry on,
thinking of him, and smiling.
