Patricia Ann Schneider was born April 21, 1940, in Walla Walla, Washington, at the Walla Walla General Hospital. Her parents, Ivan Edward Bartlett and Minnie Theisen were still together, though it wouldn't be long before her father would leave the family.
Her mother worked in the shipyards during the Second World War, at the Pendleton Woolen Mills afterward, and as a CNA later in life. Patricia spoke of getting out of school and walking Portland's streets until her mother got off work and could let her back into their apartment. She also told stories of coming home and finding all of her dolls and other toys - just gone. Later in life, she would talk of living in "the projects".
In 1948, when she was 8, the Vanport flood destroyed their home, and they moved to Milwaukie, Oregon.
She went to PAES for at least some of her schooling, then later, she attended Laurelwood Adventist Academy.
Family lore has it that Lee met Patricia at the Milwaukie Church.
They spent some time at Walla Walla College in 1957 together, where she took Home Economics classes.
In 1959, Patricia and Lee got married. On January 17, 1967, Lee and Patricia gave birth to their son, Matthew. On August 7, 1970, their daughter, Twyla, was born.
Patricia helped charter Hood View SDA Church, Rockwood SDA Church, and finally was able to help charter Pleasant Valley SDA church close enough to home that she kept her membership there until her death.
Actively part of her children's lives as they grew, she got her children interested in the natural world, crafts, books, collecting, and education. Once they entered school, she worked as a volunteer teacher's aide at Hood View Jr. Academy while they attended school there.
After her children graduated from grade school, she went on to get vocational education in desktop publishing at Clackamas Community College. During these years she worked on the church newsletter doing the graphics and design.
In 1999 the home on Sunnyside Road was sold, and for a few years she traveled the United States visiting friends and relatives, settling down eventually in their new family home in Boring, Oregon.
Her last years were spent quietly there until it became necessary for her to move someplace that could care for her increasing needs.
Mom spent her last days at Brookdale Troutdale, falling permanently asleep Sunday, April 28, 2024. She is survived by her children - Matthew Schneider and Twyla Schneider, and her grandchildren - Cascadia Schneider and Jedidiah Schneider.
