As a youth, Bud became an Eagle Scout and later served as an adult troop Scoutmaster. While in college at Oregon State, he joined the ROTC military training. As a junior he was sent to Princeton to finish his senior year. Norma joined him at this time. He later graduated from Oregon State after WWII as a chemical engineer.
He served with distinction in the Army during WWII and was deployed to Europe where he faced the German Army after wading ashore on the beach at Normandy during the invasion known as D-Day. He was later awarded a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his service to our country.
He worked for Shell Oil Company for 35 years, starting in San Francisco until 1964 when he transferred to the company corporate headquarters in Houston, Texas. He taught courses on computers while the computer industry was in its infancy. The early computers took up an entire room with their size alone.
After retiring from Shell, Bud and his wife moved to Bella Vista, Arkansas. They enjoyed traveling and he continued to serve his community and was involved as President of the Bella Vista sewer treatment district & President of Bella Vista Community Church.
Bud is survived by his children Don and Patti and sisters Ruth & Dorothy, four grandchildren; Joseph, Zach, Matthew, and Emily. Also many nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.
