Nick "Chewy" Leroy Anderson

Nick moved to Oregon in 1973 where he joined the Job Corps and was trained as a welder. He first began at FMC, which was later purchased by Gunderson, and he stayed working with the company for 47 years until his retirement in August 2019. Nick took extreme pride in his work, and loved his Gunderson family. He was admired for his commitment and work ethic, and his reputation proceeded him everywhere he went. He mentored many young people coming into this profession, and brought with him such intensity and passion. Everyone at Gunderson would say “Nick knows how to get things done.”

While Nick lived most of his life in Portland he has a large, loving family across the United States, mostly in California and Illinois. He loved to play horse-shoes, bowling, and softball. His favorite hobby was fishing. Nick loved the outdoors, rafting and camping with his family and friends. He loved relaxing and watching TV, some of his all-time favorites were Sci-Fi, Star Trek, and CNN. He loved to take long drives and escape the city, visit the ocean and mountains, and spend an afternoon watching movies in the cinema with his son Nicky. Nick was a gentle soul, a strong and honest man and anyone who knew Nick would agree he was full of love and compassion.

Nick has been a long-time member of Alcoholics Anonymous and spent 20+ years of his life helping others heal and transform their lives. He was immensely grateful for the gifts of his sobriety.

He is survived by his loving wife Donna, 4 children, and 8 grandchildren. Nick touched the lives of everyone who knew him, and had such a huge, and loving heart. The world will not be the same without him.
