Nancy Jade Chin of Portland, OR died at the age of 84. She died peacefully after living 10 years with Alzheimers.
She was born in Toyshan, China. Nancy met her husband, Billie Chin, after World War II and they were married on August 15, 1947 in Canton, China. She then immigrated to the United States. She became a citizen in 1963. Nancy worked in the family business, Tea Garden Café in North Portland for over 20 years. She then owned and operated the Nancy J. Market, a neighborhood grocery store in Southeast Portland for 20 years. Nancy loved spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Nancy is survived by her 5 daughters; Pearl Chin, Ruby Brown, Janice Moy, Gladys Rowe, Frances Wiegand and 2 sons; Bill Chin and Michael Chin and 11 grandchildren.
Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2013, at Caldwell’s Funeral Home, 20 NE 14th Avenue, Portland. Public viewing at 5-8 p.m. Sunday, March 31, 2013. Interment following memorial service at Willamette National Cemetery. Then a Celebration of Life Luncheon at H.K. Café, 4410 SE 82nd Ave., Portland.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association or to the Portland Chinese Scholarship Foundation in her honor.
