Monica Marie O'Brien

Monica Marie O’Brien 78 of Milwaukie Oregon left this earth on Thursday December 1, 2016 after a short battle with Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. Monica was born February 26, 1938 to Don and Catherine Morton.

Monica was working as a Travel Agent with Polaris Travel when she met Douglas O'Brien, and they were married June 13, 1959 in Anchorage Alaska. To this union 4 children were born, Kathleen Marie, Theresa Marie, Michael Timothy, and Mary Frances. Doug and Monica lived in Wayne Nebraska, Burns Wyoming, and moved to Milwaukie Oregon in 1969.

Monica was a room mother, swim instructor, troop leader, camp counselor, travel agent, Rotary member, friend, aunt, daughter and sister. She returned to the travel industry, working first at Milwaukie Travel Center, followed by Travel and Cruise Center, which she eventually purchased, fulfilling her goal of becoming a business owner. She retired in 2010 to care for Doug, but continued to travel with her friends and her children.

Monica is survived by her beloved dog Peanut, Daughters Kathleen, Theresa, Son Michael (Melissa), and Daughter Mary Frances (Bruce); Grandchildren Damion (Vanessa), Rochelle (Josh), Megan (John), Kristin, Blayne (Kaylynne), Maire Shea, Maxwell, and Miles; Great grandchildren - Anthony, Mercedes, Kaedyn, Katelynn, Freya and Addison Jo, friends and all the lives she touched throughout the years, including her newest friend and caregiver, Kelly Yoo. Thank you Kelly for all the gentile and loving care your gave to mom while she was in your care.

Monica is preceded in death by her husband Douglas, parents Don and Catherine Morton, and sister Kay Barrett.

Memorial services will be held on December 22, 2016 at 11:00AM
