Molly was born on March 11,1933 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala State, India. She was the child of Dr. M.C Verghese & Saramma Verghese. Molly was born to a Christian-based family and the eldest of six siblings.
Molly will be remembered and survived by her loving daughter, Meera, her son, Manoj and her granddaughter, Anantya. She will be missed by her Portland nieces, Linda, Rani and Sarita, her surviving sisters, Sheela and Mercy, her sister-in-law, Kumari, her brothers-in-law Achenkunju and Jacobkutty, and her many nieces and nephews from both sides of the family. She will also be fondly remembered by her friends and church community.
Always an academic, she reveled in education and in her youth was remembered as “always having a book in her hand.” This fascination for learning followed her throughout her life. As long as she could remember, she wished to follow in her father’s footsteps to be a Doctor in service of others. She was educated as a physician before settling in the USA in 1971 with her husband and children. Molly had been a GP in East Africa for 5 years and a consultant OB/GYN in India for 8 years before coming to the USA. She practiced as an Anesthesiologist for NW Permanente Group for 20 years before retiring in 1996.
In her retirement, her life was fulfilled with many activities including her interest in real estate, engagement in local senior center activities, traveling, gardening, arts and crafts, and spending time with family and friends.
Always front and center in Molly’s life was her faith in Christ. She found tremendous strength and comfort in her religious beliefs, which carried her through both the difficult and gentle epochs of her life. In her last years, as her body continued to decline, she would often share that she was patiently awaiting the Lord to take her.
Molly was a dedicated mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunty, and friend. She will be fondly missed by all those who came to know her for her gentle nature and kindness.
A memorial for her and a cemetery placement of her ashes will be held on March 8, 2025. All those who wish to attend should arrive at 11am, and the service will begin at 11:15am. The date was selected for the proximity to her Birthday and upcoming arrival of Spring, which was a season she was especially fond of.
For those who aren’t able to attend, the service will be streamed, and an online recording will be kept available for viewing. Please follow this link to view the service: https://www.youtube.com/live/6pFI4zQHyKo
Even though a financially practical woman, she always made sure to contribute to a myriad of nonprofit organizations that supported people in need. Those that would care to make a donation in memory of her can contribute to Doctors Without Borders: https://shorturl.at/R1IpB
