Mary was the ninth child and first daughter born to Alonzo and Rose Ethel Morrow in Macomb, Ill., May 3, 1925. After a sister and two brothers were born the family moved to Oregon.
Mary met Dick Stapleton in Portland and they were married in August of 1945. Mary had a love of writing and wrote notes, letters, cards and eventually a neighborhood weekly column about Montavilla. She was called "The Puppet Lady" when she started making puppets, first for her own children, then for others. She made hundreds of puppets and won Blue Ribbons at county fairs for years. She was a good friend to so many and always a support to anyone needing encouragement.
Mary has a large extended family and is survived by her four children, Myles, Anne Holbert, Thom, and Marc; as well as her brother, Bill; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and sisters-in-law.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Northwest Gospel Church Camas Washougal, 1420 N.E. Third Ave., Camas, WA 98671
