Marv was born near the small town of Lisbon, N.D., a few miles southwest of Fargo and spent his early childhood living on a farm. He was the son of immigrants Karl Voss and Erna Bordt.
In 1942 his widowed mother and his sister Charlette, brothers Harold, Larry, and Arnold moved to San Diego, Calif., to find employment during the WWII economic build up. After the war, the family settled in Sacramento. That was where Marvin met his bride Sheila Bond. They were married in 1950 and spent 70 happy years together. That was also where Marv graduated from Sacramento State University with a BA in accounting in 1952 and spent his career in sales. The first half of his career was as a salesman for Burroughs Corporation.
In 1963 Marvin, Sheila, and their two children, Bob and Karen, moved to Beaverton, Ore. In mid-career, Marvin obtained his Realtor’s license and began working for Stan Wiley Realtors. He eventually worked his way up to the position of a vice president for that company, but his most rewarding position was as branch manager of the Beaverton Stan Wiley office during the 1980’s where he made many lasting friendships.
During Marvin’s life he was an avid golfer, Beaverton Rotary member and president in 1996-1997, cribbage player, and had Trail Blazer season tickets for many years. He was also an active church member, lately of Shepherd Of The Valley Lutheran Church. Marv made friends easily and so enjoyed his career that he found it difficult to retire. In retirement Marv and Sheila cruised to many countries and spent numerous weeks on the Hawaiian islands. He always brightened someone’s day with his positive attitude, sincerity and humor.
Marvin is survived by his wife, Sheila; son, Bob Voss and wife, Tonya Drayden; daughter, Karen Allen and husband, Tom Allen; and Karen’s daughters, Kendra Allen and Karly Allen.
A memorial service for Marv will be held next year when it is safer to do so.
