She grew up in Portland and earned a bachelor’s degree in English at University of Oregon and a Masters degree in Education at Portland State University. She was a very accomplished and professional woman. Her love and passion for family and children are hallmarks of of an amazing and influential wife, mother and teacher.
She married Michael Torrey in 1972. As an educator, Marlene started Teaching 3rd Grade at Sabin Elementary School. From 1971 to 1994 she taught at Bridlemile Elementary School. She was loved by the students, and her influence will last for generations. Marlene was outgoing and social; she enjoyed bridge, skiing, the beach and winters in Arizona.
Marlene’s love and purpose in life have touched everyone that had the pleasure of knowing her.
Marlene is survived by her husband of 49 years, her son Randy Arvidson. her stepdaughter Monika Samper, stepson Scott Torrey; four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.. She is predeceased by her daughter Angela Arvidson.
