Marjorie’s parents both passed away before she turned 13, her mom passing when she was 12. After their deaths, she went to live in the Seattle with her older sister Helen, and her husband Dale. After the years she spent in Seattle, she then moved to be with her sister Florence and her husband Mike in Vancouver. During that time she was enrolled in Shumway Junior High. Shortly after, Marjorie was enrolled in beauty school but left, claiming she wasn’t very good at it.
After her brief time in beauty school, she started working at The Waverly Baby Home. While working and living there, she developed a deep love for caring for babies. It is also where she met her future sister in law’s mother.
In the fall of 1952 Marjorie met and fell in love with the handsome Warren Hanson. She was set up by Mirelle, her coworker at the Waverly Baby Home.
A year later Marjorie married Warren on August 22, 1953 and they lived in the same house all the years they were married. Warren passed away in 2007 and Marjorie continued to live in the house until 2001.
Marjorie and Warren raised three kids, Brian, Tracey and Scott. Marjorie was a den mother for Brian’s Cub Scout troop and was Blue Bird Campfire leader for Tracey’s troop.
Marjorie loved to garden and she also loved to go to the Wooden Shoe Tulip Farm and to see the Swan Island Dahlia’s. She also like to read, do word search puzzles, watch TV programs and go for long walks.
In 2010, Marjorie was diagnosed with dementia and was moved to a care facility in December of that year. She enjoyed playing bingo there and receiving the delicious prize of ice cream and root beer.
Marjorie is survived by her children and one grandchild, whom she adored.
In closing, the family would like to thank the caregivers at Marquis Centennial for the loving care they put towards Marjorie.
