Marilyn Ann (Nelson) Jorgensen was born on January 31, 1936 in Portland to parents Curtis Reiner Nelson and Dororthy Mary (Wharfield) Nelson. As a child, she performed dance at local venues, including Oaks Park. Summers were spent enjoying the beach and swimming in Devil’s Lake in Lincoln City, Oregon while staying at her cousin Judy’s house.
She attended Jefferson high school and Portland State University, where she served as the school’s first Anniversary Queen. It was at PSU that she met her future husband, Robert G. Jorgensen. A blind date at Timberline Lodge led to a marriage of 54 years before his death in 2010. The two of them celebrated a weekend at the lodge on their 50th wedding anniversary in 2006.
Marilyn and Bob had four children. Marilyn spent many a day shuttling kids to piano lessons, ball games and practices, cub scout meetings, and much more. In 1980, she was able to return to her beloved Devil’s Lake when she and Bob purchased a beach house in Lincoln City.
The family’s annual trip to Twin Lakes, Idaho was the highlight of every summer. It was there that they would enjoy the company of longtime friends and make new friendships that lasted a lifetime. Marilyn and Bob also traveled around the world, often visiting their favorite destinations - Australia and Hawaii.
Marilyn enjoyed hosting bridge parties, painting, and playing golf at her home course, Claremont Golf Club. She also spent time as the President of the Women’s Club at Claremont, where she organized all kinds of events.
She is survived by her four children, Karen, Keith, Phil, and Mark. Plus, she had eight grandchildren, Brittany, Brooke, Kaitlyn, Tyler, Colton, Paige, Kyra, and Kyle and five great grandchildren, Nolan, Henry, Brooklyn, Knox, and Jackson.
