It is with extreme sadness that we announce the passing of our mother Maria Ortiz. She passed away on July 6th of 2023 at the age of 80. She was a bright spark in this world and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. She touched the lives of so many and it’s our turn to give back to her family in their time of need.
Maria was born in Edinburg, Texas on May 26th 1943 to Inocencio and Amelia Garcia. She is one of six children to which are two boys and four girls; and also called the city of Portland, Oregon home. She’s survived by her husband Benito of 36 years, sons Armando Jr (spouse Hilda), Alex (Spouse Dania), and Max, and daughters Imelda (spouse Danny) and Diana, plus grandchildren (18), great grandchildren (37), and even one great great grandchild. The funeral will take place at her home church Primera Iglesia Hispana Ebenezer. The service will be held on July 18th at 11 am. All are invited to join in this celebration of Maria’s life.
Maria was a kind soul, never hesitating to throw herself into passion projects within her work, church and family. Maria was passionate about her work that she did as an educational assistant in the Portland Public school district for over 15 years. She loved working with the children in the elementary setting and in particular working with low income minority families within the community.
She was very passionate about her church service where she was a contributing member and also part of the women’s group and choir. She also taught Sunday school for the children of her church and helped with summer bible school.
One of the biggest accomplishments, if you were to ask her, was being the glue to her family’s closeness. She cherished her family with all her heart and loved each one of them in her own individual way. She taught her family the importance of being together and to no matter what, always care for one another.
Maria was a very happy, grateful, a God fearing women. She was loved by everyone she came into contact with. She was a straight shooter and never hesitated to say what was on her mind. She loved quality family time and would say, “The only thing I want for you kids, is for you to find God, love your families, and teach them my legacy”.
