Manmohan also known as MnM was born in Vadodara, Gujarat in May 1947, the year of Indian independence. As an only child of his parents, he was a devoted son who fulfilled their every wish. He was a talented Kho-Kho athlete during his college years at Maharaja Sayajirao University in Vadodara.
He studied Computer Science/Engineering in College and came to the US in 1971 to pursue a Master’s degree in the same field from Texas A&M University Kingsville. After receiving his Master’s degree he returned back to India as per his parent’s wishes and worked as a Computer Engineering Professor at MSU University, Vadodara.
He married his late wife Rekha in 1976, and after spending 20 years in India, he immigrated to the US in 1995 with Rekha and their two children. He worked closely with his brother-in-law, Buggsi Patel, for the next 10 years learning the ropes of the Hospitality industry and, in 2005, purchased his own motel, Travelodge on NE 82nd Ave. He retired in 2014 and spent his time traveling, visiting family and friends and over the last year, bonding with the family dog, Donut. Aside from traveling, he loved history, doing handy work, and watching movies.
He is survived by his son, Dhruv, daughter, Revati, daughter-in-law, Neesha, and his dog, Donut.
Following a private family prayer service, a funeral service for Manmohan will be held on Monday, June 26, 2023 at 1:30 PM at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary, 6801 SW Sunset Hwy, Portland, OR 97225.
A witness cremation ceremony will immediately follow the funeral service at 2:30pm at Sunset Hills Crematory, located at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary.
