Mabel Clara (Spidal) Winslow passed away on June 17, 2015. Born in Portland, she was raised on a farm in Gaston along with her brother and four sisters. Six more younger brothers joined the family when her widowed father remarried during her teens.
Mabel moved to Portland as a young woman where she met W.F."Fred" Winslow. They were married in 1937 and in 1938 moved to the community of Maplewood, home for 72 years. In addition to her own daughter, Linda, Mabel mothered a bevy of foster children over 20 years. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed traveling with Fred during his retirement. After Fred's death in 1981, Mabel began a new 25 year career as a dedicated volunteer and Bridge player at the Multnomah Senior Center.
Mabel is survived by her daughter Linda and younger brothers Donald, Ted, and David Spidal.
A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 27, 2015 at St. Luke's Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to SMART, or to the Multnomah Senior Center.
