Linda Patton Erickson, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on November 30, 2024, in Portland, Oregon, at the age of 85. Born on April 22, 1939, in Louisa, Kentucky, she was the daughter of Irene and Ward Patton and was raised in Louisa and Fallsburg, Kentucky.
Linda graduated from Pikeville High School and went on to earn her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Marshall University, followed by a Master’s degree in Education from the University of Maryland. Her dedication to education and service led her to work as a 4-H Youth Development Extension Agent, a Peace Corps volunteer, and a full professor of 4-H Youth Development at Oregon State University (Go Beavers!).
In addition to her work in education, Linda was a Peace Corps volunteer in Liberia, where she met the love of her life, Paul T. Erickson Jr. They were married on November 3, 1974, in Reno, Nevada, marking the beginning of a partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Together, they created a life rich in service, family, and community. They celebrated 50 wonderful years of marriage last month surrounded by family and friends.
Linda’s work extended beyond the classroom. She was actively involved in several organizations, including serving as president of the Oregon Chapter of the Cheetah Conservation Fund and as president of her national professional association. Linda was also recognized as Washington County Volunteer of the Year. Her dedication to the betterment of others extended to her political involvement with the Washington County Oregon Democratic Party. Linda was also an active member of the “Just Write” writers’ group, where she shared her love for writing.
Known for her impeccable memory, her vibrant personality, and her ability to light up a room, Linda was a cherished friend to many. Linda was a role model to both adults and youth, always striving to make the best better and to serve others with her whole heart leading by example. Her devotion to service, her generosity, and her deep love for her family and community left a lasting impact on everyone she met.
Linda’s hobbies reflected her creative spirit, including quilting, needlework, and writing. She also enjoyed volunteering, traveling, and most of all, spending time with her beloved family. Whether it was a family gathering or a community event, Linda’s warmth and kindness made everyone feel that they belonged.
She is survived by her loving husband, Paul T. Erickson Jr.; children Mark (Michele) Erickson, Christina (Rich) Donoho, and Stefanie (Gerald) Neubert; her brother, Paul Patton; sister, Jo Stanfill; and her grandchildren, Rachel, Phillip, Arden, Mia, Camille, Melanie, and Maurice.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to one of her favorite charities; Cheetah Conservation Fund, Friends of Liberia, or Marshall University. You may also donate to a charity of your choice in her memory.
Linda’s life was a testament to her dedication to others, and her legacy will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind a world made better through her love, laughter, and tireless commitment to service. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
