Linda F. Chan was born in Toisan City, China on July 15, 1938. She passed away peacefully, in the loving comfort of her family, at age 82 on December 20, 2020. Linda was the third-oldest of seven children born to Yet Har Lee and Hong Wei Wong. While living in Hong Kong, she met her future husband, Roy C.S. Chan. The couple had a daughter, Lisa, and son, Johnny.
While her children attended school, Linda started working part-time in restaurants, learning the business and cultivating her culinary skills. After the sudden passing of her husband, Linda rose to the challenge of operating a family-owned restaurant while taking over as the head of family and raising two kids on her own. Even with her additional responsibilities, she still managed to maintain the home and attend ESL classes at night to improve her English skills.
Linda’s past times included watching game shows, The Price is Right, Let’s Make a Deal, Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune as well as the Food Network, NBA and NFL. As a life-long, devoted fan of the Portland Trail Blazers, she rarely missed a game on TV and, on occasion, would attend home games in person with her children. She would cheer on her beloved players or give them a pep talk when they weren’t playing well, as if they could hear her coaching through the TV. She often reminisced about the Blazers winning the title in 1977, and lamented about when the championship drought would end.
Linda enjoyed taking scenic trips with her family, exploring the Coast and Pacific Northwest. Some of the rugged landscape and greenery reminded her of her childhood homeland. No matter where she traveled or what activity she was doing, home was where her family was and joy was spending time with them.
Linda is survived by her devoted children, and she will live in their hearts forever.
