Librada Salunga Centeno, a farmer, was nineteen when she met Paul Laruya Ramirez, thirty-four, a Sargeant in the US Army 1st Filipino Infantry Regiment, who bravely fought in WWII. They were married on May 14, 1945.
At 43, Librada was widowed, left to raise 10 children. A hard worker, always up before dawn, Librada, also known as Adang, raised the family selling vegetables at “palengke” market. She was also a talented seamstress and haircutter to her children. She was a Portland resident since 1979 and a member of St. Andrew’s Church.
Librada loved her garden of roses and vegetables. A chef to the family, Librada hosted plenty of holidays, birthdays and family gatherings that created many fond memories that will always be cherished and missed by her family.
She leaves to cherish her memory: children, Lydia, Paul, Danny, Dixie, Alex, Joe, Crisa and Andy; grandchildren, Joy, Peter Paul, Clay, Taiwan, Vangie, Pauline, JP, Mark, Jeff, Ryan, Jane, Haydee, Rose, Tina, Christopher, Alexis, LJ, Brandon, Tiana and Taryn; twenty-eight great grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.
Librada was preceded in death by husband, Paul; sons, Fidel and Bernard; daughter, Beth; grandchild, William; siblings, Simprosa (Osang), Agustina (Isting), Gerardo (Do), Rufina (Pinang), Martina (Nina), Honoria (Oring), Leonida (Luding), Isabel (Abing) and Mariano (Ano); parents, Luciano Centeno (Siano), and Guillerma Salunga (Semang).
A funeral mass for Librada will be held Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at 2:00 PM at St. Andrew Catholic Church, attendance will be limited due to Covid-19. Please join via Livestream if you are unable to attend.
