Larry Dixon Jr., age 89, of Portland, Oregon passed away on Thursday, July 8, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. Larry was born August 31, 1931 in Hope, Arkansas to Larry Dixon Sr. and Sally Faye Dixon.
At the age of 17, Larry entered the Air force where he served for four years. During his time in the Air force he worked as a cook in Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1951 in Tacoma, Washington.
Through out Larry's life, he worked at Payless in the warehouse, owned and managed One Hour Martinizing Dry Cleaners, and then took a custodian job at the Veteran's Hospital before retiring.
Larry enjoyed all things outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and camping. In his spare time, you could find him watching old western films. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and family who meant the world to him.
Larry is survived by his children, William Dixon, Gloria Dixon McDonald (Curtis), Hazel Dixon Coleman, Phillip Dixon (Kari), Rebecca Dixon Frazier (Donald), Shawnye Dixon, Darryle Dixon, Timothy Dixon, Terry Dixon (Josephine), Kenneth Dixon, Patrick Dixon Sr., Julie Dixon Wogoman, Trevor Dixon and Kyle Dixon; 29 grandchildren; a host of great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Larry is preceded in death by his sons, Larry Dixon III and Dennis Dixon; parents Larry Dixon Sr. and Sally Faye Dixon; and siblings.
A visitation for Larry will be held Monday, July 19, 2021 from 4pm to 8pm at Zeller Chapel Of The Roses. A committal service will occur Tuesday, July 20, 2021 from 9:30am to 10am at Willamette National Cemetery with a repast to follow at Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church from 11am-12:30pm.
