Kyle was born on November 6, 1979, in Portland, Ore., to parents, David and Penny. He was raised in Oregon with his sisters, Alisa, Jody, and Emily.
Immediately following high school, Kyle joined the United States Navy, and committed himself to achieving the rare, and difficult, accomplishment of becoming a Navy Seal. He served honorably, and was awarded several medals and ribbons. (Listed below)
Following his military service, Kyle worked in private security.
Kyle had many hobbies. He loved all animals; even the mean ones. Neighborhood dogs were known to linger around, waiting for him to come out and play, give them belly rubs, and treats. He took care of many dogs during his life; they were his true loves and priority. He enjoyed hiking, the outdoors, home construction projects, all cartoons, Legos, puzzles, Disney, cooking, hosting parties, and helping anyone with anything. He was the rare person willing to drive long distances to help others.
Kyle will be remembered for his great sense of humor; generous, loving, and sincere hugs, which left a lasting impression on friends and family; and the manner by which he was careful, and loving with the hearts of everyone. He could laugh with anyone without offending someone. He had an open mind to all things bigger than himself, was disciplined in all forms of self-improvement, and was able to have difficult conversations while simultaneously being reassuring.
Kyle was most commonly known as “Uncle” to his nieces, nephews, and so many others. He was committed to the children in his family, and dedicated his time and efforts to spending time with them as often as possible. He had meaningful conversations, gifted the “cool toys,” attended all the birthday parties, Face-Timed, and played the games that other adults did not jump to play. He sincerely loved, and cared for, each of them.
Kyle is survived by his parents, David Lister and Penny Jacobsen-Lister; sisters, Alisa Gillett (Thomas), Jody Lister (ex-husband, Larry Lacefield), and Emily Harbour (David); nieces and nephews, Brooke, Cortney, Lena, Hannah, Hayden, Hailey, and Preston; and countless friends and fellow service members.
Kyle was the only son, and was the very best brother to his three sisters. He made his parents extremely proud, and he will be missed forever. He loved his family, and they will never be the same, or okay, without him.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 29, 2024, in Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home, Portland, Ore.
