Born November 8, 1960 in Walla Walla, Washington, Kerry Martin Lee Smith passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Friday morning, March 20, 2015, at his home in Damascus after suffering a massive heart attack. Kerry, the fifth child of Robert and IrmaLee Smith of Woodburn, Oregon grew up with his brothers Michael (Kathy), Duane (Doris), and Kevin (Stella), sister Melani and brother-in-law Joe Smith. A generous and caring man, Kerry was the loving and faithful husband and friend of his wife Diane for more than thirty two years. Kerry passionately loved Jesus and knew that Jesus loved him. Because of this great love and passion Kerry, working together with Diane, led his family of four children, Kyle (Stephanie), Alycia, Brandon, and Breanna with an amazingly dedicated and selfless love. This included countless hours on the road to soccer games, dance performances and equestrian events; not to mention the time and effort spent in coaching, preparation, and mentoring of dozens of other children and sometimes even their parents. He was also strongly committed to his children's educations. As the founding partner of a Portland area law firm, Kerry specialized in helping the disadvantaged within the larger community. Even in the midst of a grueling work load, Kerry found time to mentor up-and-coming attorneys and to assist other attorneys when he knew they had a need. Before becoming an attorney, Kerry served as a police officer and offered lifelong support to those experiencing traumatic incidents in the law enforcement community. His untiring efforts on the behalf of others will long remain the hallmark of Kerry’s life.
The memorial service will be at Abundant Life Church, 17241 SE Hemrick Road, Damascus, OR on March 30th at 11:30 a.m.
