Macey Hyde was a humble man with a wonderful sense of humor. He was trustworthy and traditional in his approach to his life and in his relationships. He was a fair-minded man with an easy going nature, compassionate and caring toward others. Macey was a man who loved his family, serving God, and his work.
Macey was born on March 27, 1917 at home in Denver, Colorado. He was the son of William and Leota Hyde. Macey grew up in Portland, Oregon with two siblings. He has an older sister, Violet, and a younger brother, Everett.
As a young boy, Macey had a number of interests. Macey was an active child who played basketball. However, to him the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his friends.
Macey graduated from Commerce High School in 1935. He enjoyed drama and played on the basketball team. Following graduation he attended Business College for a year.
Always considered a good friend to those he knew, Macey enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. While growing up, one of his best friends was Dick Thurber. Later in life, he became good friends with Dick Day, Malcolm Herd, and Dick Neese.
On October 23, 1941, Macey exchanged wedding vows with Margaret Louise Batt at the Golden Gate Baptist Church of Wilder, Idaho. Margaret was the love of his life and they shared 68 years together. Their marriage was a wonderful example of commitment, caring, and dedication to each other.
Macey worked hard to be a good father to his children, and he strived to fulfill their needs. He was blessed with four children, one son, Kenneth, and three daughters, Kathleen, Susan, and Sharon. Another blessing for him was the gift of five grandchildren, Joanna, Matthew, Eric, Ashley, and Taylor, who adored their Papa.
Fortunately, Macey enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, he worked diligently and was successful in his career. His primary occupation was as owner of Mar-Hy Distributors, a wholesale heating and air conditioning company. He ran the business for 50 years.
Macey was a Coast Guard Veteran during WWII aboard an LST. He served in the military from 1943 to 1946.
Macey enjoyed his leisure time by playing golf and singing in the church choir. His greatest pleasures involved spending time with his family and trips to the beach.
Following the Trail Blazers and attending games were regular activities for more than 30 years.
Macey’s faith was important to him. He was a life-long member of Waverly Heights Congregational Church. Over the years, he served as church moderator, trustee, deacon, and a choir member.
Macey enjoyed traveling with Margaret. They had the opportunity to travel to many different countries. Their favorite vacations included trips to Palm Desert for golfing and trips to McCall, Idaho with family.
Macey retired in 2007 at age 90. Even in retirement, he continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances when they lived at Miramont Pointe, a retirement community.
Macey passed away on April 27, 2010 at his daughter’s home in Happy Valley, Oregon, surrounded and lovingly cared for by his family. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; children, Kenneth, Kathleen, Susan, and Sharon; grandchildren, Joanna, Matthew, Eric, Ashley, and Taylor; and sister, Violet. A memorial service will be held at 11AM, Saturday, June 5, 2010 in Valley View Evangelical Church in Clackamas. Macey was laid to rest in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Simply stated, Macey was a kind and caring person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as someone who was a vital part of their lives. Macey leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Kenneth Macey Hyde.
The family suggests contributions in Macey’s name to either Waverly Heights Congregational Church or Valley View Evangelical Church in lieu of flowers.
