Kelly was a loving father, husband, uncle, and friend. He had a huge sense of humor and was known for being outspoken. He had a passion for animals and anything old. Kelly's motto in life was "relax and take it easy." He will be remembered for his generosity and willingness to help others.
Kelly is survived by his wife, Lynette Watkins, and their two sons, Nicholas and Zachary Watkins. He is also survived by his brother, Cliff Watkins, and his sisters, as well as his mother. Kelly was a beloved uncle to his nieces, Aubree, Ashley, Tori, Alyssa, and Anona; and nephews, Brandon, Corbett, Jeffrey, and Michael. He was also a father figure to many of his boys' friends.
Kelly attended Lincoln High School in Portland. After his high school graduation, he served in the Army from April 1, 1981, to November 12, 1991, achieving the rank of SGT E5. During his military service, he specialized as a turret mechanic in the Motor Pool division of the 4th Battalion, 6th Infantry, and 5th Infantry Division.
Following his military service, Kelly pursued a career as a mechanic and process engineer for an injection molding plant until 2001. He was also actively involved in volunteering, including his time with the Special Olympics in Germany and assisting at his children's elementary school.
In his free time, Kelly enjoyed cars, music, fishing, building models, and collecting antiques.
A service to honor Kelly's life and military service will be held at the Willamette National Cemetery on February 5, 2024, at 12:45pm. A gathering will follow at the Watkins residence.
