Julie was born in Eugene, OR on January 2, 1951, the second child of Lowell and Nellie Olaen. She grew up in Springfield, OR with her older sister, Linda, her younger brother, Greg, and her younger sister, Teresa. Julie met her husband, Paul, at Columbia Christian College in Portland, Oregon, where they were fellow student body officers and members of the Northwind singing group. They were married on July 28, 1973, in Beaverton, OR and were blessed with over 49 years of marriage. Julie taught and directed a kindergarten program during the early years of their marriage and then stayed home to raise their children. The Lord blessed them with six daughters: Susan, Evelyn, Karen, Marilyn, Sarah, and Emily. Julie loved caring for her family and enjoyed sewing, baking, playing the piano, and reading. She also loved teaching classes for girls in her church family, extended family, and with her granddaughters as well. Julie lived her life with gentle strength, quiet peace, great joy, and deep faith in her Lord and Savior. She shared her love and radiant smile with family, friends, neighbors, and everyone she met. Her beautiful, warm spirit touched all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband, Paul, six daughters, Susan (Eric) Guild of Nairobi, Kenya, Evelyn Hinds of Portland, OR, Karen (Jared) Jones of Snohomish, WA, Marilyn (Clint) LaRue of Edmond, OK, Sarah Hinds of Portland, OR, and Emily (Ben) Lindsey of Edmond, OK, 12 grandchildren, Matthew Guild, Anna Guild, Rebecca Guild, Elisabeth Guild, Naomi Jones, Elijah Jones, Kayleahana Jones, Wesley LaRue, Natalie LaRue, Colby LaRue, Charley Lindsey, and Luna Lindsey, her sister Linda (Dennis) Hunt of Springfield, OR, her brother Greg Olaen of Springfield, OR, and her sister Teresa (Greg) Adams of Molalla, OR, along with many loving extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her parents Lowell and Nellie Olaen and her grandson Teddy Lindsey.
A graveside service will be held privately at Finley-Sunset Hills Memorial Park in Portland, OR. A public memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 15, 2022 at 2pm at Southwest Church of Christ, 9725 SW Durham Road, Tigard, OR 97224.
In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be directed to Orphan’s Lifeline Int’l. Memorial gifts may also be directed to the Northwest School of Discipleship through the Southwest Church of Christ.
