Jon was born in Denison, Iowa on March 4, 1938. He grew up in Springdale, Arkansas, graduated from University of Arkansas College of Medicine and was a Fellow of the American College of Radiology. He practiced medicine as a Radiologist in the greater Portland area for 40 years. He married Linda Bryan on April 4, 1964 in Auburn, CA. Jon was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he served as a Captain in the U.S. Air Force and earned an Air Medal Award. He was an avid outdoorsman who particularly loved fly-fishing, bird watching, hiking and spending time at Black Butte Ranch in Central Oregon with his wife, Linda, family and friends. He was a member of the FlyFisher’s Club of Oregon, OMA and Clackamas County Medical Society.
Jon’s parents, LP and Lavern Sewell, and his twin brother, Joe Sewell, precede him in death.
Jon is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 56 years, Linda Bryan Sewell, daughter Jenny and husband Mike Strezo, son Jon and wife Cindy and son Kirk and his wife Lindsey, and his 6 grandchildren, Nick and Casey Strezo, Jude and Max Sewell and Lily and Kate Sewell. He is also survived by his brother, Dale (Glenda) and sister June Janecek (John), and eight nieces and nephews (Laura, Robin, Kip, Jill, Michael, Joe, Sam and Margaret).
At Jon’s request there will not be a service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Jon’s favorite non-profit organizations, The Freshwater Trust or Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon and Southwest Washington.
